New Response from Councilmember Steven Silverman
Councilmember and candidate for County Executive Steven Silverman has contacted us to express a change in his position. The following is what he wrote to us: "This is the most recent letter I have sent out on the pedestrian underpass issue. I would appreciate it if your website posted the updated version. Thank you.

Thank you for contacting me regarding the pedestrian underpass on Georgia Ave. at the Forest Glen Metro station.

Pedestrian safety is a critical quality of life issue. I have now had a chance to review the WMATA study on the pedestrian underpass and other safety measures and am convinced that we need the underpass. I also believe that we must take steps now to see what can be done in the near term to address pedestrian safety issues in this area. I have written to the Department of Public Works and Transportation and the State Highway Administration to look at planned and potential short-term improvements identified in the WMATA report to see which measures can be implemented expeditiously as well as a time frame for doing so.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact me about this important issue.

Sincerely,

Steven Silverman

Councilmember
