Bill Bronrott, a state delegate from District 16 (Bethesda) issued the following statement supporting Forest Glen residents. While Bronrott does not represent our district, he is known as one of Maryland's top advocates for pedestrian safety and has helped pass many pro-pedestrian bills over the years. We appreciate his reaching across district lines to encourage our efforts.
"Thank you very much for taking the time to contact me on your important project. Having grown up in a neighborhood adjacent to the Route 97-Capital Beltway intersection, I am keenly aware of the problems associated with pedestrian safety and walkability along the Georgia Avenue corridor, including the Forest Glen area. Your proposal seems like a very reasonable attempt to improve safety and walkability while encouraging more residents on the east side of Georgia Avenue to use Metro and to do so by foot rather than by motor vehicle. I am glad you are reaching out to the new County Council and County Executive along with the incoming District 18 delegation. I hope your efforts will also include the forthcoming leadership of the Maryland Department of Transportation (which will probably be announced by the end of this calendar year). Starting in January, the Montgomery County House of Delegates delegation's transportation committee will begin to meet to discuss our delegation's transportation priorities for 2007. It would be important for the District 18 representative on the transportation committee to make sure your project is on our radar screen. Appointments to our delegation's transportation committee will likely be solidified by the end of December. (www.montgomerycountydelegation.com) In the meantime, I will forward your email to members of the Montgomery County Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee (of which I am a member) to make them aware of this proposal to make Forest Glen a more pedestrian-friendly community. Thanks so much for your leadership! Very best wishes, Bill Bronrott " |
