Forest Estates resident John Howley put together the following photo essay on the July 31 WMATA public meeting:

Neighbors sign-in at Holy Cross Hospital to learn about WMATA’s plans for the Forest Glen Metro.

Inside the auditorium --- standing room only! More than 200 people showed up on a sweltering Monday evening.

Mike Hall, from Holy Cross Hospital, organized the space and cookies. Don’t worry, Mike managed to rustle up enough chairs for everybody!

From left to right: Fred Boyd (MNCPPC); Stephanie Yanovitz (State Highway Administration, District 3); Nat Bottigheimer (WMATA); and Gary Malasky (WMATA).

Do they look a bit tired? They answered questions until 10 p.m.

Here’s Ray Briscuso, the newest member of Metro’s Board of Directors. He was sworn in on July 6, after being appointed by Governor Ehrlich. He wisely stayed on the sidelines, listening and learning.

Paul Gordon, County Liaison for the Forest Estates Community Association, presents our views to WMATA.

Joe Davison makes his point.

Oscar Sodani listens while Margo Kelly of our neighboring Forest Glen Community Association makes her point to WMATA.

An unidentified community member speaks out.

Many current and aspiring elected officials showed their support for community concerns. I waved my camera around but didn’t get pictures of everybody.

Here is Hans Reimer (left) with FECA member Adam Pagnucco.

Adam P. passed out a lot of flyers at the Metro station. His reward is to be photographed with candidates!

Here he is with Dan Farrington (right), who is a candidate for state delegate.

One the left is Marc Elrich, who is running for an at-large seat on the County Council, with FECA’s webmaster Oscar Sodani. Marc grew up in our neighborhood.

Elrich, currently a member of the Takoma Park city council, spoke passionately about the need to protect community interests in the face of development.

WMATA seriously mismanaged development at the Takoma Park station, generating a lot of bad feelings.

Has WMATA learned its lesson? Maybe. Stay tuned.

FECA member John Howley, Delegate Rich Madaleno and Delegate Jane Lawton (left to right).

Our District 18 team, including Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez (not shown), has been very supportive on our concerns about pedestrian safety at Forest Glen and Georgia.

Rich is running for the state senate seat being vacated by Sharon Grosfeld (who is retiring).

Here’s John posing with Jeff Waldstreicher, candidate for state delegate.
