Councilmember Steven Silverman has followed up on the tunnel issues with the State Highway Administration (SHA). You can read his memo below:

"Dear Mr. Sodani,

I wanted to share the State Highway Administration’s response to the memo I sent them regarding pedestrian safety at Georgia Avenue at the Forest Glen Metro Station. I have also included the original memo I sent to DPWT and SHA to provide some context for SHA’s response. I am closely following this issue and look forward to making progress on this important issue. Thank you for your advocacy on behalf of pedestrian safety.

Sincerely,

Steven Silverman

SUBJECT: Forest Glen Pedestrian Safety Issues

Several constituents have contacted me with pedestrian safety concerns along Georgia Avenue at the Forest Glen Metro station.

As you may know, a report by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority entitled, “Forest Glen Station Access Assessment,” identified a list of planned and potential pedestrian safety improvements. In conjunction with the construction of a pedestrian underpass as a long-term solution to the safety issues, I also feel we must move forward expeditiously with the near-term measures outlined in the report. I would like to know what the estimated timetable of completion is for the planned improvements and the feasibility of the potential improvements. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue.
