"Pedestrian safety is a serious problem in Montgomery County. Our county has experienced significant growth in both the number of people and unacceptable volume of traffic particularly in areas adjacent to our urban core. The intersection of Georgia Avenue and Forest Glen Road is a prime example of the safety challenges pedestrians face on a daily basis when trying to navigate the maze of traffic while attempting to cross this important road. I believe that the most effective way to address these safety concerns is to construct a tunnel under Georgia Avenue in order to reduce the frequency of auto collisions with pedestrians. These safety concerns are most likely to increase as the area completes the next phase of development in the area. I fully support the pedestrian tunnel and as County Executive I will aggressively work for its construction."
