"Dear Friends:  I enjoyed attending the Wheaton Arts District celebration on Saturday, and I enjoyed my discussion with Natalie, Adam and others concerning the tunnel.  I wanted to make certain you knew of my strong support for the tunnel.  The District 18 Team (Rich Madaleno, Ana Gutierrez and I) wrote a letter to the State Highway Administration earlier this year urging their support for the tunnel.  In response to our inquiry, we were advised by SHA that County officials had not made it a high priority.   Later, we met in person with State Highway Administration officials and again expressed our support for the tunnel, along with other safety issues along Georgia Avenue, north and south of the beltway.  Again, it was clear that, like most transportation projects, the tunnel needed a push from County officials as well as our "state delegation" expressions of support.  I was very glad to see that Rich Madaleno (my colleague in District 18) and our "budget guy" in Annapolis, replied to you about his support, also.  I am happy to say again to all of you - that I strongly support the tunnel.  I will do all I can to lobby my friends on the County Council and to push SHA officials to advance this project.    I am eager to work with my colleagues and with all of you to make the tunnel a reality.  If you'd like to talk with me about this or other issues, please call me at 301-986-0260.  I look forward to hearing from you!"
