"I grew up over there. I moved to Coleridge Drive in 1960 and my parent's house backed up to the Beltway (actually the woods until they put the Beltway in). So I'm very familiar with the neighborhood. I have serious concerns about the development proposal. I don't believe that Georgia Ave. can handle anymore and am skeptical about how much Metro ridership the development will generate since the only jobs the Metro can reach are on the Red Line.
One of my positions is that development should not proceed in the absence of adequate infrastructure and if I'm on the Council I'm going to work to restore the Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance. I'm willing to support either a tunnel or bridge approach to dealing with that intersection and would take my lead from the community.
...I'm happy to get involved - I've worked with lots of civic groups faced with excessive projects."
