The following is traffic accident data from the intersection of Forest Glen Road and Georgia Avenue, excerpted from an email sent to us from a traffic analyst in the Montgomery County Police Department.

We should remember that this data represents real people and real tragedies.

Per your request for traffic collision data, I have included totals for collisions where a police report was written and the incident was handled by Montgomery County Police from January 1, 2004 through April 30, 2006.  Please keep in mind that Maryland law does not require a written police report for every traffic collision, therefore additional collisions may have occurred and will not be reflected in these totals.  A report is written if there are injuries, the vehicles are rendered inoperable and require towing, or in the event of a hit & run incident.  In addition, traffic collision locations are recorded for the road name on which the collision occurred and the closest intersecting roadway.  For the purpose of your request I searched for collisions that occurred at the traffic signal or in the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Forest Glen Road.  See the table below which details the type of collisions annually:

In addition to reported collisions, there were 63 incidents at the indicated location since 2004 that were verified events but did not meet the criteria for a written report.  This data is our calls for service data where the disposition indicates a collision occurred and an officer was dispatched to the indicated location.  These totals should only supplement the above table and only indicate collisions where no report was written but an officer was dispatched and verified the event.
