The following letter was sent to FECA President Paul Gordon by County Councilmember Valerie Ervin: February 15, 2007 [Date of postmark]

Dear Paul:

Thank you for your letter regarding your concerns about the Forest
Glen Metro Station pedestrian tunnel. I reviewed your e-mail when it
was received by my office.

I am highly committed to this project because I know how much it is
needed to enhance pedestrian safety in this highly traveled area. The
first step that had to occur for this project to be included in the
State's capital program was for it to be highly ranked on the County's
State transportation priority list. I have educated my colleagues
about this issue, and on February 6, the Council and the Executive
ranked the Forest Glen pedestrian tunnel as the number two priority
among transit projects that the State should fund for a detailed
study. The Council and Executive have also ranked the reconstruction
of Georgia Avenue between 16th Street and Forest Glen Road number one
among road projects that the State should fund for a detailed study.

In a related matter, late last year the Council asked the State
Highway Administration, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit
Authority, and the County's Department of Public Works and
Transportation to coordinate on a study to identify further short-term
safety improvements at the Georgia Avenue/Forest Glen Road
intersection. We understand that a scope of work has been circulated
and is being reviewed by these agencies. It is anticipated that this
study will proceed in the next few months.

As your Councilmember representing District 5, I appreciate hearing
your concerns. Your views are important to me and help me in my
deliberations on matters that affect the residents of Montgomery
County.

Sincerely,

Valerie Ervin

Councilmember - District 5
