The fact is, there already is a tunnel leading into the Metro. We are asking for an extension of that tunnel, to form a new metro entrance on the east side of Georgia Avenue. The entrance would be in line of sight of the Metro employees, just like the current tunnel that leads to the parking lot.

So is there crime in the existing tunnel? None. ZERO. Check this out:

Notes:

(1) The robberies in 2000 and 2006 were reported on trains.

(2) The assault of 2001 was reported on a train.

(3) The larceny offenses reported were thefts from autos and bicycles.

(4) The destruction of property incidents were a combination broken windows, scratches, or other damage to autos in the parking lot. 

No crimes were reported in the ‘small tunnel’ for the seven-year period reviewed.
