Jeff Waldstreicher comes to Forest Glen metro PDF Print E-mail

"I was at the Metro station again today, passing out FECA fliers for the tunnel, when state delegate candidate Jeff Waldstreicher appeared. Waldstreicher was handing out generic campaign literature, but he was talking about the tunnel to passerby. He told me he was putting out a press release next week supporting us on the tunnel and would begin running specifically on that issue. He also told me he was coming to the Holy Cross meeting on Monday night."

Hans Riemer comes to Forest Glen Metro, talks about tunnel PDF Print E-mail

While handing out CrossingGeorgia.com fliers at the Forest Glen Metro station, Forest Estates resident Adam Pagnucco ran into County Council candidate Hans Riemer. Mr. Riemer was handing out fliers of his own that advocated a pedestrian tunnel and improved safety measures at the Forest Glen Rd/Georgia Avenue intersection.

We applaud Mr. Riemer for taking a stance and being proactive on this issue!

Mr. Riemer's flier said the following:

"Georgia Avenue at Forest Glen is the most congested intersection in Montgomery County. It's time for County leaders to get serious about a comprehensive improvement to the area, including a safer pedestrian crossing.

If elected to the County Council for District 5, I will strongly support making a safer pedestrian crossing a top priority for the County. Once the County has designated the crossing as a priority for State funding, it should receive the State funding necessary to complete the project.

According to WMATA, an underpass (tunnel) would cost $8-10 million to design and complete. All options, including an overpass (bridge) should be quickly explored so that the most feasible proposal can move forward.

Montgomery County has to get serious about providing alternatives to driving, and enhancing pedestrian access to Metro is one of the key concerns. Safety for those who walk to and from the Metro is essential if we are going to boost Metro ridership and build stronger neighborhoods.
