This message was written to a member of the Forest Estates community by Nat Bottigheimer, the Director of Planning and Project Development at WMATA.
"There may have been a misunderstanding or miscommunication on the
parking issue. It seems that some members of the audience may have inferred that the parking that would be replaced would be
for existing commuters and new residents to share. I certainly regret
that we did not communicate clearly enough on this point and that anyone
should have left with this impression.

Jeff Waldstreicher, a candidate for State Delegate, has issued a press release on his website that talks about the tunnel and the proposed development at Forest Glen Metro.

Last night, we showed WMATA, the State Highway Administration, and our elected officials that we are serious about improving the quality on the Forest Glen Rd/Georgia Avenue intersection - and that we will not take no for an answer!
Over 225 people packed that auditorium so that it was standing-room only. WMATA was clearly not ready for the passionate, well-thought out questions and comments that the residents around the Forest Glen Metro station had prepared.
Several candidates for public office attended the meeting - keep a look out on our politicians page as we highlight the candidates who cared enough to show up and hear our concerns. Unfortunately, not a single incumbent county council member bothered to attend. We must not forget when we go to the polls to vote in the primaries.
In the coming days and weeks, we will post video, audio, and text excerpts from this meeting, and you will get to hear some choice quotes from the presenters. Stay tuned! |

Following up from yesterday evening's presentation, I'm forwarding information about availability and utilization of bike storage facilities at the Forest Glen station.
There are 16 bike lockers at the Forest Glen station, of which 13 are used. There are 42 bike racks, all the RackIII model. Of these, 38 are usable and 4 are in need of repair. We have made two observations of bike rack use rates: 14 racks were being used in the first observation, and 21 were being used in the second observation, with 2 bikes locked elsewhere on site.
It's worth noting that neither the lockers nor the racks are within sight of the station manager's kiosk (>300' from entrance), which may reduce the attractiveness of these facilities for potential users.
Hope this is helpful....if not, by all means email me with requests for more or clearer information.
Best wishes,
Nat Bottigheimer

According to the Montgomery
County Public Schools website, Oakland Terrace has a current capacity
of 469 kids. The enrollment projection for 2006-07 is 727 kids, and
that is projected to rise in future years. If the FG development is
built, will Oakland Terrace have to build a classroom trailer park in
its parking lot to accommodate everyone? - Adam Pagnucco
